Susu Pampanin
SanFrancisco, California

She has explored and studied all types of percussion instruments and styles of music,
and her incredible talent is especially evident in her work in Middle Eastern drumming.
Susu is well known for her virtuosity in Arabic drumming and is one of the few female
Middle Eastern drummers highly respected by the Arabic professional music community.

Susu performs regularly in the Arabic clubs of San Francisco Bay Area and has toured extensively
throughout the United States playing with Middle Eastern musicians. She has performed with the
world famous drummer Hossam Ramzy.

She has played and recorded with over a dozen albums including Light Rain,
Wild Mango, Keith Terry and Crosspulse, Stellamara, Jazayer, BlueNile,
Vince Delgado Quintet, Susu and the Cairo Cats, and most recently,
Holly Near. She also has a solo drum CD, Hands of Time.

Terri Ann Gutierrez
also known as Zaina Zahesha

SanFrancisco, California

TerriAnne is one of the San Francisco Bay Area's most well-known
and sought after performers and teachers.

She specializes in Modern Egyptian and American Cabaret, with stylistic influences from some
of the forerunners of Egyptian Dance, including the great classic performers
Samia Gamal and Tahia Karioca.

Dinner includes: Stuffed Grape Leaves, Hummus, Yogurt Dip, Pita Bread,

Refat will once again be joining Desert Fire 2007 & teaching a drum workshop.
 Hear the Rhythm!Feel the Beat!
The drums are the heartbeat of Arabic music!
  
 You too can learn to play the heartbeat of Arabic music on the Arabic drum
called the Dumbeck or Durbekke with internationally known Refat Drakmih. 

Born and raised in Jordan, Refat has been performing with bands since the age of 10.
After moving to Dallas he traveled the United States performing with his band "Alshomu" 
Refat now resides in Albuquerque , where is teaches drums and plays for many of the belly dancers.

This workshop will cover the basics rhythms for the novice and will add
embellishments for the intermediated to advanced drummer.
